Known as the “Father of Oklahoma City,” Henry Overholser was a man of little income who lived in 1889 and participated in nearly every facet of the city’s development between 1889 and 1903. He convinced the Frisco Railroad to run its line into Oklahoma City rather than Guthrie since he was an entrepreneur. In terms of politics, he was a member of the “Committee of Seven” that resolved property conflicts in April and May of 1889, as well as a County Commissioner and County Finance Officer during the Panic of ’97. His mansion, which was the first house constructed in the Heritage Hills area in 1903, is nearly entirely original to the time it was erected. Through a tour, visitors may discover authentic Oklahoma history and go back in time.
